【Changsha Huagu Opera】
It came into being in Qing Dynasty and was prevalent in the middle, east of Hunan and the bank of Dongting Lake. It is the music mostly from folk canzonet, the local and small opera with special art style and strong life sense.

【Changsha Fiddle Ballads】
It is one of the music arts in the city, which came from a form of folk art by using ballads with a moral theme. Since it is said and sung in Changsha dialect, it is also called “Changsha Ballad with a Moral Theme”. It is quite popular in Changsha, Yiyang, Xiangtan etc., with a history of more than 200 years.

【Changsha Shadow Play】
It is said in the legend that it began in Han Dynasty and became popular in Song Dynasty. It came from Changsha’s folk song and dance and still prevails now.

【Changsha Puppet Show】
It is commonly called “Wood Skull Drama”. It came into being in Han Dynasty, formed its shape in Tang and Song Dynasties and became prevalent from Ming and Qing Dynasties to the period of the anti-Japanese War. The present Changsha puppet show has acquired new development by designing the puppet’s figure, footwork and action to make the puppet show entirely new.

【Ancient Music of Liuyang(County)】
It is created by an ancient music expert of Liuyang (County) in Qing Dynasty. It melts song, dance, courtesy and music into a cultural furnace. It usually begins with the music player’s ancient music, melodious and simple, while the dancers dance to music, which is a spectacular display. As time goes on, all the musical instruments of the current Liuyang’s ancient music have been stored in Hunan Provincial Museum except that musical scores “Eight Ranks” was dropped out to Japan owing to the disorderly war before liberation.
